NFL Teams Eliminated from Playoffs 2023

6 NFL Teams Eliminated from Playoffs 2023 Before Week 16 Starts

December 20, 2023 End Off Week 15 –

As NFL Week 15 concludes and Week 16 kicks off, the playoff picture comes into sharper focus with the elimination of six NFL teams before the start of the new week. The stage is set for a thrilling showdown as the remaining contenders vie for their shot at postseason glory.

6 teams have been eliminated from playoff contention including the three super bowl champion teams 1) New England Patriots (coached by legendary Bill Belichick), 2) Washington Commanders (head coach: Ron Rivera), and 3) New York Jets (team of legendary QB Aaron Rodgers). The other three teams that have been eliminated are 4) Tennessee Titans, 5) Arizona Cardinals, and 6) Carolina Panthers.

Confirmed by Fox Sports: NFL through their X handle, the eliminations are making waves across the sports world. Here is the Tweet shared by Fox NFL.

NFL Teams Eliminated from Playoffs 2023

#1 New England Patriots (3-11)

The New England Patriots have faced a challenging season, losing 11 games and securing only 3 victories. Coached by the legendary NFL figure, Bill Belichick, the team currently finds itself at the bottom of the conference division, as per the NFL standings.

With just 3 games remaining, even a win wouldn’t be sufficient for the Patriots to qualify for the playoffs. The team’s underwhelming performance has led to fans speculating whether this marks a downturn in the coaching legacy of Bill Belichick.

Despite the current struggles, it’s worth noting that the Patriots hold the record for the most Super Bowl wins, with a total of 6, a distinction shared with the Pittsburgh Steelers.

#2 Washington Commanders (4-10)

The Washington Commanders began the season on a positive note, securing 2 wins. However, since then, they have only managed to win 2 out of the next 12 games. With 10 losses already, they have just 3 games remaining. The team’s struggle is evident, with both the defense and offense underperforming, placing the Commanders at the bottom of the NFC East Division team list.

Despite being a three-time Super Bowl champion, the Commanders are currently not in contention for the playoffs this season, reflecting a challenging and uncharacteristic performance.

#3 New York Jets (5-9)

The New York Jets kicked off the regular season with a notable 22-16 victory against the Buffalo Bills. Despite facing numerous ups and downs and grappling with injuries, the Jets have only managed to secure 5 wins as NFL Week 15 concludes. Notably, the team has been affected by the key player injury issue, especially concerning the legendary NFL player Aaron Rodgers. Although drafted by the Jets this year, Rodgers only participated in the first game before being sidelined for the rest of the season due to a torn left Achilles. As of December 19, Rodgers revealed on the PatMcAfeeShow that he is still not medically cleared and not at 100%.

It’s worth mentioning that the New York Jets, one of the three Super Bowl champion teams, have been eliminated from playoff contention, marking a challenging season for the team.

#4 Tennessee Titans (5-9)

The Tennessee Titans became the fourth team to be eliminated from playoff contention. Concerns were raised after their loss to the Texans in the last matchup, especially considering they were leading. Adding to their challenges, Will Levis’ injury on the final sack in overtime has further impacted the team. The Titans commenced their NFL season with a narrow 1-point loss to the New Orleans Saints, resulting in a final score of 15-16.

#5 Arizona Cardinals (3-11)

The Arizona Cardinals are the fifth team on the list of those eliminated from the NFL season 2023. With only three wins and 11 losses by the end of week 15, the team finds itself at the bottom of the NFC West division standings.

#6 Carolina Panthers (2-12)

The Carolina Panthers are the sixth team to be eliminated from the playoff race this NFL season. The team has secured only two victories, defeating the Falcons and Texans. Their second victory came in the last game against the Falcons, with just a 2-point lead.
