Former Las Vegas Raiders wide receiver Henry Ruggs is currently serving a 3-to-10 year sentence for his involvement in a fatal drunk-driving incident. The incident resulted in the death of a 23-year-old woman. Ruggs is currently working at the Nevada governor’s mansion as part of his sentence.
The tragic incident occurred in November 2021 when Ruggs crashed his car into the rear of another car driven by 23-year-old Tina Tintor with her dog at 156 mph at high speed. The impact caused the other vehicle to burst into flames, resulting in the death of the young woman and serious injuries to her passenger.
Ruggs, 25, was sentenced on Aug. 9, 2023.
Ruggs, who was found to have been driving under the influence at the time of the accident, was subsequently charged with DUI resulting in death and reckless driving. Prosecutors had said Ruggs’ blood-alcohol level was 0.16, which is twice the legal limit.
Despite the severity of his sentence, Ruggs will be eligible for parole in August 2026. This means that he could potentially be released from prison after serving a minimum of three years of his sentence.
The case has sparked discussions about the consequences of drunk driving and the responsibilities of public figures, such as professional athletes, in promoting safe and responsible behavior.
