After Nick Saban decided to retire as Alabama head coach, fans are just curious about who will be the next coach of Alabama Crimson Tide. A buzz created by fans and media that Jeremy Pruitt can be the next head coach, instead without knowing that he is under 6 years of “Show Cause Penalty”.

Under the Show Cause Penalty by NCAA, Pruitt would be suspended for the first of any job he gets.

What is a show cause penalty?

Under the NCAA Bylaws ‘Show-cause penalty’ is an administrative penalty to punish the coaches for committing fundamental regulations violations. This penalty stays effective for the particular term and may also be transferred if the groups underneath NCAA hires the coaches, all the sanctions continue to be the same for the coach.

Jeremy Pruitt Show-cause Penalty Scandal

Jeremy Pruitt is one of the coaches in the NCAA who got punished by the “Show-Cause Penalty” on July 14, 2023. Pruitt violated the show-cause penalty when he was head coach of Tennessee from the year 2018 to 2020.

Pruitt, his wife Casey East and members of his football team furnished about $60,000 of impermissible benefits and recruiting inducements to more than dozen recruits and their families during his 3 years as head coach at Tennessee.

Pruitt’s show-cause began on July 14, 2023, and will end July 13, 2029.

The University of Tennessee was also fined $8 million by the committee after being found guilty of over 200 separate infractions, among which 18 were classified as Level I violations. The school, however, avoided a bowl game ban but will be on six-year probation.

So, if any team hires Pruitt then he would be suspended for the first year of his tenure.
